The Oregon Community Foundation (OCF) is celebrating a milestone of one billion dollars in grants and scholarships awarded to nonprofits and communities in every region of Oregon since its founding in 1974.

Helping OCF reach this important milestone are 36 Central Oregon agencies that received a total of $380,000 in awards this week.

“We’re proud that these exceptional Central Oregon agencies have helped push OCF to the $1 billion milestone,” said Cheryl Puddy Associate Program Officer for OCF in Central & Eastern Oregon which serves the counties of Crook, Deschutes, Jefferson, Sherman, Wasco and Wheeler and the Warm Springs Reservation through the Foundation’s Bend office.

A few highlights from the 2015 spring grant awards in Central Oregon include:

Death of Dynasty Foundation Would Deal Major Blow to Russian Science

Death of Dynasty Foundation Would Deal Major Blow to Russian Science | News | The Moscow Times

The potential closure of a leading scientific foundation that was placed this week on the Justice Ministry’s list of “foreign agents” would deal a colossal blow to the country’s scientific community, prominent Russian scientists said Tuesday.

The Dynasty Foundation, established in 2002 by telecommunications mogul Dmitry Zimin, was added Monday to the Justice Ministry’s list of “foreign agents,” a label applied to nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) that receive funding from abroad and engage in loosely defined “political activities.”

The foreign funding that the Justice Ministry claims Dynasty is receiving in fact comes from Zimin’s personal bank accounts, which are kept abroad.

Despite Putin’s alleged questioning of the Justice Ministry’s decision, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov defended the move earlier Tuesday, saying that Dynasty’s inclusion on the “foreign agents” list did not reflect a problem with the legislation, Interfax reported.

Alexei Kudrin, a former Russian finance minister who currently heads the Committee of Civil Initiatives foundation, wrote Monday night on Twitter that the fact Dynasty landed on the “foreign agents” list represented a serious flaw in the legislation.

The wide-ranging reaction to the Justice Ministry’s decision also sparked debate about the nature of the “foreign agents” law. The Vedomosti newspaper reported Tuesday that the Justice Ministry and Russia’s presidential Human Rights Council have expressed a willingness to drop the law on foreign agents, given last week’s adoption of controversial legislation on “undesirable organizations.”

NBCU Foundation, Stations Offer Grants To Nonprofits

May 25, 2015 5:00 pm Published by

The NBCUniversal Foundation has partnered with the NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations to announce the launch of the fourth annual 21st Century Solutions competitive grant challenge.

“This grant challenge allows the NBCUniversal Foundation to support local organizations that share our mission of finding innovative ways to move people and communities forward,” said Beth Colleton, SVP of corporate social responsibility, NBCUniversal. That doesn’t necessarily mean that either Netflix or Amazon are distancing themselves from “regular television,” but there’s a familiarity to Grace and Frankie that seems rather dated.

Like the two stars, the series is endearing, loud and desperate for attention, but ultimately a love letter to comedy and comedy history.

First-rate casting including Anna Friel, Peter Facinelli and Treat Williams can’t obscure the been-there, seen-that sensation, which doesn’t spur much curiosity about how these tentacles connect or offer much hope the show will last long enough to find out.
