Nor do entrepreneurs see philanthropy as a topic that comes up regularly amongst their peers, according to the research.

The report also provides interesting insights into how entrepreneurs view the environment for philanthropy with almost all of the interviewees identifying ways in which the environment could be made more supportive in Ireland.

Factors such as changes in tax legislation, attitudes to successful people and the lack of efficient and accountable interlocutors were identified as examples of the shortcomings.

Communication preferences

Entrepreneurs had a strong preference to be communicated with on philanthropy via contact through peer and business networks, as well as through philanthropic intermediaries such as the Community Foundation for Ireland.

The report makes a number of recommendations arising from direct suggestions by respondents in the areas of donor services, the non-profit sector and public policy.

Copies of the report can be downloaded from the Community Foundation’s website or at philanthropy.ie’s website.

Friday, May 1, 2015

After nearly 20 years as Second Ward Councilman, Mark Hammer, 57, is seeking an at-large seat on the Republican ticket in the May 5 primary.

“When I joined the City Council in September 1995, the city was just breaking ground on the ‘new’ water treatment plant, welcoming Crown Industries as the newest industrial member of our community and committing $325,000 of IBM funds to an Endowment Fund at the Putnam County Community Foundation,” Hammer recalled.

Hammer has served as treasurer of Putnam County Playhouse; past member and president of the Greencastle Park Board and is a member of Greencastle Christian Church and the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce.

CDT(Danielle Guerra dguerra@shawmedia.com)A sign for Give Local DeKalb County hangs on the fence Thursday along First Street in DeKalb in front of the Ellwood House and Museum, one of the 62 participating nonprofits that hope to benefit from the countywide online fundraiser coming up Tuesday.

DeKALB More than 40 local nonprofits are hoping that giving money goes viral Tuesday.

The organizations have been promoting Give Local DeKalb County, an online donation drive designed to support local agencies, using social media. “This community is so generous.”

She said she doesn’t think the Give Local campaign will detract from ongoing fundraising efforts to help those affected by the Fairdale tornado, and many of the organizations participating in the event will likely be of service to Fairdale residents as part of the boarder long-term recovery process.

The cooperative spirit of the campaign “says a whole lot about this community,” Zurbrugg said.
